The story
Kilimanjaro National Park was created to protect the mountain's forest, moorland, alpine desert, glaciers, and watershed. The mountain has long guided trade, farming, and settlement around Moshi and the Chagga highlands.
For many visitors the story begins at the gate and ends at Uhuru Peak, but the older story is lower on the mountain: villages, coffee farms, waterfalls, and forests that keep the slopes alive.
