The story
Nyerere National Park was gazetted in 2019 from part of the wider Selous ecosystem, one of Africa's historic protected wilderness areas. It carries the name of Julius Nyerere, Tanzania's first president.
Its older Selous story is river, woodland, and expedition country. Today the Rufiji makes it special because travelers can combine game drives with boat safaris.
