Udzungwa was declared a national park in 1992 to protect one of Tanzania's richest Eastern Arc mountain forests. It is more for walking than traditional game driving.
The park's history is a biodiversity story: rare primates, forest birds, and plants survived in these mountains while drier lowlands changed around them.
